The Value of Intellectual Property

In this series we look at the usefulness of Intellectual Property for business.

Intellectual Property and Intellectual Assets are intangibles which are often overlooked in valuing the assets of a business, assessing its performance, and its planning. However the value of these intangibles are often significant, often eclipsing the value of capital assets.

Unlike traditional capital assets, intellectual assets tend to appreciate in value. They thus tend to have an even greater influence on the performance of a business. Unfortunately a lack of understanding means that the value of many intellectual assets are never fully realised, allowed to dwindle, or never leveraged off.

The following pages are intended to increase the awareness that businesses have of their intellectual assets.
